Thomas Stokell, Managing Director

Thomas is a social marketer with ten years' experience in social marketing and cycle promotion. He piloted New Zealand's first 'Workplace Cycle Challenge' in 2002 and has been designing and implementing other successful programmes since. He established Challenge for Change in 2007 to bring the 'Workplace Cycle Challenge' programme to the UK and Europe. Outside of the office Thomas enjoys playing the piano, taking photos and enjoying the outdoors. He is also a shameless promoter of New Zealand wine and would like you to know that Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc is quite delicious.

Louise Pearson, Operations Manager

Louise has managed the delivery of 15 Cycle Challenges over the last 18 months. She has played a key role in developing and improving our tools and systems to deliver successful Challenges with great outcomes. She has seven years marketing and project management experience, most recently in the arts and cultural sector. Louise relaxes with a ride along the canal or nurturing her allotment.

Sam BW

Sam Robinson, Business Development Manager

Sam has a professional CSR background and a wealth of experience delivering UK and international development programmes. In 2010 he won ‘Best Overseas Project’ category at the national Charity Business Awards for his ‘FutureBuilding’ project in Tanzania. His career spans the public, private and voluntary sectors, giving unique insight to many aspects of programme design and delivery. Sam also plays football for the world-famous Easton Cowboys, crams in as much camping with his family as possible and keeps the beat with a local Samba band.

James Butcher, Project Manager

James joined Challenge for Change after six years working in fundraising and business development roles in the charity sector, most recently at the Woodland Trust. James leads on business development work, as well as managing several Challenges. A creature of simple pleasures, he is at his happiest on two wheels, usually lured along by the prospect of food somewhere along the way.

Rachel Woodward, Project Manager

Rachel oversees a number of Challenges across the UK, having previously worked promoting sustainable travel to businesses in Southampton. She has an MSc in Public Health and three years experience working on studies into health behaviour in the UK and Australia. Rachel loves exploring the great outdoors, perfecting her culinary skills, sampling the results and learning new things!

Sophie Edmondson, Executive Assistant

Sophie has a degree in Psychology, and an interest in health behaviours and sports psychology. One of the newest members of the team, she makes sure our Challenges and websites run like clockwork. In her spare time you’ll find Sophie playing Ultimate Frisbee for Leeds and at international level, while mustering the courage to one day do a naked bike challenge.

Jennifer Mak, Project Co-ordinator

Jennifer has a Masters degree in Health Psychology and is interested in promoting healthier behaviours. She supports the planning, delivery and evaluation of Challenges. In her spare time, she enjoys learning to sing and salsa, cooking and talking about food.

Sama Alyasiri, Project Co-ordinator

Sama has a Masters in Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy, with a focus on sustainable transport behaviour for her thesis. She supports the delivery of Challenges, including assisting with the marketing, planning, management and evaluation of projects. In her spare time Sama enjoys cycling, yoga and searching for a hat small enough to fit her head.

Dr Carolyn O'Fallon PhD, Social Researcher

Since 1993, Carolyn has worked in the transport sector as a researcher and policy advisor in New Zealand, with clients including the Ministry of Transport and Transit New Zealand. Carolyn is the lead advisor on the quantitative and qualitative research and analysis for our programmes.

Dr Julie Bennet PhD, Social Researcher

Julie is a highly skilled Social Researcher who understands the role of research in the development of behaviour change programmes. She has worked at the Health Sponsorship Council (HSC) in New Zealand on projects including Bike Wise, tobacco control and SunSmart. She works alongside Carolyn on the quantitative and qualitative research and analysis for our Challenges.

James Nisbet, Web Designer

James is both a web designer and web developer, which often means he takes a creative approach to the challenges we face with the complexity of our website application. He has a wealth of experience in developing online tools and has a keen eye for good, clear design.

David Boyes, Web Developer

David is a software and website developer based in Wellington, New Zealand. He is primarily a website developer focussing on programming - working with many languages including PHP, Python, Ruby and Objective-C. He is a very capable in website development and database design, and in his spare time likes to work on iPhone games and Ruby on Rails projects.

Rebecca Le Pine, Graphic Designer

Rebecca is a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication Major),and started working for Gibson Rusden Design Group Limited, a design agency based in Wellington while still at school. She has since worked as a graphic designer in Sydney, London and Dubai, and designs marketing materials for all our Workplace Challenges.
